Storytelling As Therapy

With the #GrittyGirl journey I’ve been more inclined to share my story beyond this blog. I recently ventured onto a stage to tell one of my stories to a live audience.

This was my More Than Just A Medicine Cabinet story re-written for Fugitive Stories, a storytelling event put on by Fugitive Productions.

Fugitive Stories Month-inspired True Stories Told Live is the brainchild of producer David Gerratt of Fugitive Productions. David produces and hosts live storytelling, comedy, and music events around the western suburbs of Boston.

Fugitive Stories

I love storytelling. In fact, I have won awards for storytelling but in the written format and for marketing purposes only –to tell a brand’s story. This is the first time I tell a story from my own life to a live audience.

So I jumped at the opportunity to tell my story when David graciously welcomed me on his stage. It was exhilarating! I mean, I got to share the stage with seasoned and extremely talented storytellers. Some of these performers have not only been featured on MassMouth and the nationally syndicated shows The Moth and Stories From The Stage, but they’ve also won numerous storytelling competitions.

I’ve been fascinated with The Moth for years. Have you ever had a “driveway moment”? This is where you sit in your car and you won’t get out until you’ve finished listening to a particularly remarkable story or segment on the radio. This is what I do when The Moth Radio Hour comes on on my local NPR station. I can’t help it, the stories are so darn good I have to sit in my driveway, alone, for whatever long it takes until I’ve been able to listen to the entire story. As you can imagine, getting to tell my story on the same stage with storytellers who have been on The Moth was beyond amazing and I can honestly say I caught the storytelling bug!

Have you heard a particularly remarkable story lately or know an amazing storyteller we should listen to? Share it here!
